NZPTC
uses learner-focussed teaching techniques that include
group discussion, role play, guided exercises, practical
work, theoretical work, assignments/projects and examinations.
Extensive use of computers are made.
At
the beginning of each semester, students are given an
outline of the coursework and the assessment system
that will be used. Students will be given a timeline
of their work requirements, including dates for examinations.
Furthermore, all assignments will be fully explained
by the lecturer in terms of content, style, format and
expectations. Students will always be given two weeks
notice of any test.
While
some courses will have examinations as part of their
assessment, most assessment is based on coursework and
the completion of a variety of exercises to prove a
thorough knowledge of that coursework. Each course module
has a number of outcomes on which the student will be
assessed for competency; and passing the module requires
successful assessment on most or all outcomes to a minimum
of 50%. Students may also be assessed on their participation
in class activities and attendance.
A
statement of results is mailed to each student at the
end of the semester.
Any
requests for rechecking of scripts has be on the appropriate
form and lodged with the Centre Director within two
days of the official results being known. There is a
fee for the rechecking of each script.
Staff
are always ready to assist students in any aspect of
their studies and can be approached directly or by leaving
a message at reception. Centre Managers are also available
for consultation on appointment.
