NZPTC
welcomes students from the Asia-Pacific region and will
assist with their move to Fiji to take up studies at
the Centre.
Fiji
can offer overseas students the same diploma they would
gain if attending Box Hill Institute of TAFE but they
will find it cheaper to live and study in Fiji, where
the people are culturally more compatible and the climate
is warmer.
Overseas
students will find Fiji has an excellent infrastructure.
Overseas students will find well-equipped hospitals
in the major centres, several private doctors and dentists,
excellent banking, postal and telecommunication systems
and frequent public transport within towns and between
towns. There is a good range of shops and restaurants
in all centres, particularly Suva, Nadi and Lautoka.
Major banks include the Westpac Banking Corporation,
ANZ Bank, Bank of Hawaii and Bank of Baroda.
Because
Fiji is the cross-roads of the Pacific, there are communities
from most Pacific Islands in the main centres. Since
the days of indentured labour, there has been a large
Indian community which retains much of its cultural
identity and links with India. As with many countries,
there is also a substantial Chinese community.
While
in Fiji, students have several accommodation options,
which NZPTC will help organise:
* Homestay: living with a local family and receiving
full food and board for a pre-agreed monthly payment.
* Room Rent: Renting one room of a house and catering
for yourself or entering an arrangement for provision
of food by the home owner.
* House/Flat Rent: staying on your own or with other
people and sharing the rent. Rooms could be single or
shared and food purchase and preparation could be either
separate or shared.
* Hostel: NZPTC is in the process of constructing a
campus which will offer hostel accommodation to students
where each student will have his or her room, share
bathing facilities and eat communally in a dining hall.
